could it be spring?

Most of y'all are heading into fall, so I've been reading much ado about fall. So much so, that I've been a little confused about what month or what season it is. (I hail from the northern hem, so living in opposite seasons takes some getting used to.)

i like this kind of autumn
Winters here are icy, cold, dark and dry enough to prohibit easy breathing. Snow doesn't seem to stick for too long these days (global warming?). So it snows and immediately turns into a huge + dangerous mess of ice. There's really nothing pretty about it after the initial quiet fall. Winters are also mostly windless, which is a welcome reprieve for Patagonia. I can't imagine if the wind blew all that cold around like it does in the summer.

Our welcome home weather was that of a typical Patagonian summer: ceaseless wind from all directions, rain, sunshine, snow, sun, downpour, snow, sun. Then the sunshine graced us with its presence for a whole decently windless (for here) day. And we rode bikes.

We're diving into spring; our current truth is more light! Instead of dusk falling at 4, its curtain swishes in around 6.30 p.m. By Christmas, the sun will shine until 11 or so. I'll dearly miss the 18+ hours of daylight when we head back to the States. But, because most of our summer days still require a puffy jacket, or at least a scarf and reasonably heavy jacket, I do look forward to the spring and summer days of yore. Sundresses, shorts, skin, skin not entirely transparent, wearing flowers in my hair windlessly, reading outside--in a flowered field.

But for now I'm loving more light; tiny pops of green, of life; new penpals and letter writing projects; the return of friends who wintered (well, summered) elsewhere; me not freezing; lambs; tangelos; finally having lettuce to make the most delicious salad we've eaten in months.

I lived on an island in your hemisphere, loved it. We had nice weather pretty much year round but having Christmas on the beach and snorkeling the new year in was heaven. Happy Spring to you...enjoy the fresh flowers and flowers in your hair.

what a sweet post! winters here stink too - nice when it snows for 1st day then it's just nasty!

What a lovely post. I think it would take some getting used to having so much daylight - I kind of like the short days of winter. Love your photos - that first one really does capture fall.

Wow- light until 11- that is surreal.
When I was younger we travelled to Finland and I remember it looking like noon at 2 am!

That would take getting used to!

Lovely post- glad your friends are returning.

How crazy to have the seasons so "backwards!" I went to Peru last summer and it was so odd that they were gearing up for the coming Spring, while I was heading home to Fall! :)

I love how the weather and times are so different all over the world..it's wild! hehe I don't know how I would survive if lived somewhere with months of pure darkness or pure sunlight...I really think I would hibernate during the dark months and not sleep during the light! (horrible plan I know)
Thanks for commenting today! :o)
and yes I agree rocks would be an awesome present...but a bad idea for shipping! hehe

so if you move back to the US, say, in March - you'll bypass a winter for a long time!

i think that makes sense...

I love that kind of fall too that the first picture portrays. I have been thinking how it will get darker earlier soon and I will miss the hours of light in the evenings that we have in the summer!

oooh I love the feeling of going into spring after one of those long, dark, cold winters.

I am definitely soaking up the last bit of summer, it was bittersweet stepping outside this am b/c I could feel the chill of fall in the air! Makes me already want spring to be here.

How are you friend? You sound cheery and light - hope that is all true!

I just returned from Canada and truly experienced fall. It was wonderful. Today it's 75 degrees, but a little cool. I really have no room to complain.

We had really long summer days in Canada too - the sun was up until 11pm several days - I miss that. Even though you've got some wind it sounds like some great seasonal changes are taking place, too. Enjoy!!

Carrie
