some moments are like this.

So, everything is wonderful. (um, what kind of beginning is that? a bit of foreshadowing, maybe?) My trip to the embassy on Monday went off without a hitch! The woman who looked over all my paperwork was super helpful and practically welcomed us (back) into the country! In saying our farewells, she said: See you in two months! All very good. It's warm here (around 20 C during the day), Serkan and I are laughing like newlyweds, eating good food, enjoying our time away from snowy Patagonia.

And yet...

There's this little ball of farawayness that's been tugging at me. I'm sure it doesn't help that I've been sleeping poorly for several days in a row. I'm not sure what it is. I have been writing back and forth with new friends and old. But I guess I long for some more intimate companionship. Sitting one-on-one chatting with a girlfriend. Or walking and talking. Or with a group of girls gigging at game night. I'm afraid after living here for so long, I've forgotten how to even talk on the phone. This is my current form of bleh... And I'm not sure where it's coming from.

Is it pregnancy hormones? Speaking of this, I had my first run-in with the question: Are you pregnant? today. I'm about 4.5 months along. While my belly is obvious to me and Serkan, I find it an incredibly risky question for the suit in the coffee shop to ask me. I said . But I now think I should have said no, you know, to see him squirm a little. How does one recover from that faux pas? After that he wanted to chat. And... well, this wasn't the companionship I've been longing the last couple of days. A male friend of mine suggested I get my hands on a T-shirt that says: Does the baby make me look fat?

So, now Serkan is coming to meet me, and we are going to go for a little couples shop therapy. Maybe a new bag and some stationery.

Have a fun day shopping- I am so glad everything worked out at the embassy.

Very risky question.

hahaha i really want a shirt that says that for when i get pregnant!! keep your head up, everything will be fine when you are home - you'll probably be surprised at how easy it is to get back in to it :) you're mind is just on another line right now. no worries!

I like the pregnancy shirt that says "made with love" my friend said it was tacky though...

Oh, but it's so so nice that you have a little life in your belly; you have to feel the need to share it with everyone! Even though some pregnant women are sometimes annoying, they still glow in a way that I personally can't describe. I'm sure anyone would like to talk to you if you want that too; and if you ask them to. It's just a matter of time anyway, but you should get some more rest.

Hope you have a great day and don't forget to smile down to your little belly every day!

Sarah.

aww, I know how you feel. I don't have any friends where I live, and I'm a stay at home mom, so I don't have any outlets to make friends, really either. I spent my entire pregnancy alone, for the most part, except for evenings, when my fiance would come home from work. It was kind of trying at the time, but looking back, (now that I have a 2 year old, and no time alone) I wish for a day by myself!

Hollie said...

ps. WHO DOES THAT?! I would NEVER ask someone if they were pregnant, for fear that they are actually just plump. How embarrassing that would be.

I would love to have a shirt like that when I'm pregnant :) Hope you have fun shopping!

Ahh that is a really risky question. I would never ask anyone that unless they are popping out. Even then I don't say anything :)

Oh this must be such an exciting time for you!

I find myself missing being close with my friends who are girls sometimes too. I think it's important to have sometimes, but hard when everyone is far away.

I hope you enjoyed your little outing :)

And yes, what a risky question indeed! I hope all is going well xoxo

Congrats on being almost 5 months along. How nice for you! Looking out for some photos.

Congrats on the pregnancy - how exciting for you both!!
I can relate re: close friends! I have found that now I am no longer in my 20's I am not connecting with the people I was before and just not forming those close friendships. I have one friend in particular that I really miss. Blogging has certainly helped me feel less alone, even though the 'friendships' formed are limited.
Thanks for stopping by my blog :)

Oh Heather.

I can completely relate to the missing the one on one with girls. All my best girl friends are in Washington State or Canada, and even though it doesn't seem far it's not the same as being able to stop by and have a meltdown or a laugh or two.

It's really hard.

Hang in there. The best is yet to come. I am so glad things went smoothly with immigration. I look forward to all your belly updates and other updates, and especially to the day you say Serkan is approved and you can come.home. Southern California might be a good option...just saying!!

That guy in the coffee shop? Okay I'm going to stop now.

xoxo,
Carrie

Wow, congrats on the baby bump!! That is incredibly exciting :) Perhaps it's not the pregnancy, rather the stresses of having to leave and come back and sorting out all those residency issues...? That could have taken a toll.

I hope the shopping therapy works out for you, I did some of that yesterday :)

Have an amazing weekend!!

I try to avoid ever asking someone if they're pregnant, seems to be a touchy question fraught with too many pitfalls.

Have a wonderful weekend!

It's called "nesting" which covers alot, basically hormones and crazy unforseen acts of nurturing. Enjoy every minute of it!That period of my life is when I really started sewing and got my business started...Very powerful
Nathalie

p.s. And not to rock your world, but just wait until you get a bit bigger and strangers think they can come up and touch your belly...I was not into that one!

I'm glad to hear everything worked out. And yes, that's not a question you ask at that stage. :)

Heather,

I just got your letter and it completely made my day. I so seldom get letters or mail that aren't bills. My heart just skipped a beat when I saw the envelope, and then when I turned it over and saw it was from you I almost started crying!!

Thank you so much for thinking of me and writing to me, and for becoming such a true friend. The internet is a very strange, yet special place!

xoxo,
Carrie

I'm so happy for you and Serkan!!! Hang in there and BREATHE! Everything works out...so I've heard :) ((hugs!))

omg that would be a fantastic t-shirt!

i agree, that is a risque question to ask, although maybe it's not seen as such in other places in the world (?).

i once had a (crazy) lady at the airport ask me if i was "expectin'." when i said "excuse me?" she replied "well that shirt makes you look pregnant."

.....

you just can't make this stuff up.

kelli g. { bug miscellany } said...

p.s. i was not then, nor am i now, nor have i ever been, pregnant.

Awww, i enjoyed this post. I didn't even know that you were pregnant, so CONGRATS! I almost got a shirt like that when i was pregnant. I am of slim built so when my belly started showing, it just seemed like i was just getting a pouch(like i needed to do some more ab workouts). I know people were wondering...but i don't recall anyone asking:-). I know what you mean about companionship too- i was alone for awhile during my pregnancy(hubby is military and he was deployed). Although we have a virtual relationship, we're still here for you. Chin up:-). xo

I'm so happy for you! I never ask unless I'm AT THE OB/GYN'S OFFICE! Way too risky! ;)
